EHF Cup Round 3: German teams top both NEXE and Gorenje

EHF KUP 3. kolo Nijemci svladali NEXE i Gorenje

Gorenje - Metalurg

SEHA Gazprom League will not have representatives in EHF Cup's group phase this season. Both NEXE and Gorenje have in qualification round three fallen short against favored German teams.

Croatian vice-champions did not manage to catch a win in either of two clashes versus German Magdeburg losing by a big margin away (31:22) and then closely at home (27:30). David Spiler was running their game in the second leg scoring 5 in a comeback after an injury but that was not enough to at least grab a win in front of their home fans. Big away loss also forced NEXE's leaders to make a coaching change with Hrvoje Horvat replacing Zdenko Kordi on the bench.

Slovenian vice-champions Gorenje Velenje were way closer to reaching the group phase after losing with 24:29 at home and then taking a 32:29 win away against Füchse Berlin. Gorenje were five goals up after the first half in Berlin but it was hard to expect for them to keep the gap open against favored German side. Niko Medved was their best scorer in Berlin with 7.

EHF Cup official group draw is scheduled for Tuesday.
