EHF Cup Qualification Round 2 recap: Vojvodina go through

This weekend also brought some exciting action in the EHF Cup for two SEHA teams. Vojvodina and Steaua Bucuresti played the second leg of their double headers. The Serbian champions qualified for the next round, but Steaua were stopped by Maccabi. 

Maccabi Srugo Rishon Lezion – CSA Steaua Bucuresti 27:23 / 23:25

Steaua could not keep the lead they gained in the first match at home. They beat Maccabi 25:23 in Bucharest, but the Israeli team was more composed in the second leg and will go through to the next phase of the competition. The match in Israel was very tough for both sides, especially because it was so close on aggregate. However, Rastko Stojkovic, Meshkov Brest and SEHA legend led Maccabi to the victory with 6 goals. For Steaua, Krsto Milosevic and Stefan Vujic scored 6 goals each in the second match. Vujic with 8 goals and Stojkovic wih 7 were also the main actors in the first match. 

Green Park Tigers Aalsmer – Vojvodina 23:26 / 21:29

Vojvodina recorded two victories against the Dutch champions and proved to be on another level compared to their opponents. The Serbian champions won the first match comofortably in Novi Sad, which proved to be enough to go to the Netherlands very relaxed. Jovica Nikolic shined in the first match, leading Vojvodina with 6 goals. He continued his good form with 8 goals in the second leg away from home. Milos Grozdanic was also brilliant in that match as he netted 10. Overall, Vojvodina proved to be far superior and more experienced than Aalsmer. They deservedly progress to the next phase, where they will be joined by another SEHA team- Nexe!
