EHF EURO 2020: meet Groups B and E

Rusija

Two out of seven SEHA countries that will participate at the upcoming EHF EURO 2020 will start their journey in Group B. While two other SEHA countries were placed in Group E. Now that we are only one day away from the start of the competition, it's time to meet closely these teams.

Group B
North Macedonia was placed in Group B alongside fellow SEHA country, Ukraine and two other countries, Czech Republic and one of the hosts, Austria. With a new coach on their bench, Danilo Brestovac,  this squad will be motivated to achieve good result. So far, their best performance was at the EURO back in 2012 when they finished 5th. On the expanded, 28-players list, some well-known SEHA names found their place there. Some of them are Eurofarm Rabotnik's stars, Nikolce Mitrevski, Bojan Madzovski, Martin Velkovski and Nikola Markovski. Telekom Veszprem's gem, Dejan Manaskov was also on that list. Morover, names of Vardar's captain, Stojanche Stoilov and PPD Zagreb's player Nenad Kosteski were there too. The list also featured Vardar's youngsters, Dejan KukulovskiMarko Kizic and Dimitar Dimitrioski. Now it's left to see which of those players will enter the court at the EHF EURO. They will start the competition with a match against Ukraine that is scheduled for Friday, 10th of January.

This will be the first appearance for Ukrainian national team at the EHF EURO after 10 years. That's why they will be looking to come back strong on the European scene after they finished 16th at the EHF EURO back in 2010. On that path, they will have the help of SEHA stars. Goalie Gennadiy Komok and players Zakhar Denysov, Dmytro Doroshchuk, Artem Kozakevych, Pavlo Gurkovsky and Stanislav Zhukov from Motor Zaporozhye will be a part of the squad. Olexandr Shevelev and Vladyslav Ostroushko from Eurofarm Rabotnik will also join the team. Ostroushko and Gurkovsky are considered to be the key players who have important roles in this team.

Group E
For the 12th time in the history of this competition, Hungary will compete at the EHF EURO. Their best result so far was 6th position they reached 12 years ago. Now, they will have the chance to improve those standings. On that path, they will have Telekom Veszprem's diamond on the goal, Marton Szekely. There is no doubt that this SEHA star will have big impact in his team's achievements. Hungary will also open this year's EURO with a clash against another SEHA country, Russia.

EHF EURO 2020 will be great opportunity for Russia to bring back the amazing achievements this team was known for in the past. After they failed to qualify for the previous EURO back in 2018, they showed how motivated they are to make this one count. With outstanding names on their roster like Timur Dibirov, Daniil Shishkarev, Gleb Kalarash, Sergei Gorbok and Pavel Atman (all from Vardar), they can hope for the best. There will also be Motor Zaporozhye's Victor Kireev and Igor SorokaAlexander Shkurinskiy, who plays for Meshkov Brest, will also wear Russian national team jersey at the EHF EURO 2020.
The match between Hungary and Russia is scheduled for Saturday, 11th of January.

Besides those groups, we will have the chance to see some familiar SEHA faces in other groups too. Telekom Veszprem's stars Blaz Blagotinsek, Borut Mackovsek and Gasper Marguc will be a part of the Slovenian national team who will compete in Group F. In that same group, these three will play against their teammate from Veszprem, Andreas Nilsson, who will be a part of Swedish national team.
