Veszprem conquer Novi Sad

Vojvodina

Telekom Veszprem have on Sunday afternoon managed to make a big step towards SEHA Final 4 tournament defeating Vojvodina in Novi Sad 26:31. David Davis and his guys have that way proved they are ready for what’s waiting for them in the key part of the season delivering a solid defensive performance in this one led by goalkeeper Vladimir Cupara.

About ten minutes into the encounter Hungarians were already 1:6 up. However, hosts refused to surrender bringing Rastko Stojkovic in whose experience helped open up Veszprem’s defense and create opportunities for back players to score easy goals. Sretenovic, Pribak and Nikolic were slowly catching the right tempo narrowing the gap to only 8:10 (10:12). Unfortunately for their fans, Veszprem were able to keep their calm finishing first half strong with three goals in a row.

Jovica Nikolic, youngest player on the court, was leading his team offensively both as a scorer and playmaker but guests were simply too strong today. Coach David Davis even rotated his team keeping his players fresh while at the same time not allowing Vojvodina to cut their lead. Closest they were able to come was 21:23 with a bit over ten minutes left until the final buzzer but they simply lacked both focus and quality to turn the result upside down.

Rastko Stojkovic finished the game with nine for Vojvodina while Manuel Strlek on the other side netted seven for Veszprem. Second leg is scheduled for next weekend.
