EHF EURO 2022 – Croatia fails to qualify for the semi-final, France to meet Sweden & Spain against Denmark

EHF EURO 2022

Main Round of the ongoing EHF EURO 2022 in Hungary and Slovakia is now behind us. Unfortunately, SEHA – Gazprom League will not have representative countries in the semi-finals with Croatia failing to do that after being the only SEHA representative to qualify for the main round.

Former Nexe’s coach Hrvoje Horvat, now in charge of Croatian national team, and his players managed to defeat Iceland and secure a draw against one of the most pleasant surprises of the tournament – the Netherlands. Unfortunately, prior to that they lost to Montenegro and Denmark, which meant they no longer have a chance to qualify for the final weekend.

And there, reigning Olympic champions France will meet Sweden and reigning World champions Denmark will face reigning European champions Spain. With, obviously, the best of the best on display you definitely don’t want to miss this.

Another reason why you don’t want to miss this is because SEHA- Gazprom League will have its players there as well. Kentin Mahe, who is currently in the health and safety protocols due to Covid-19 is looking to get back out there and help his team reach another final. In the second semi-final we’ll see a Telekom Veszprem duel with Rasmus Lauge on one and Rodrigo Corrales as well as Jorge Maqueda on the other side.

The best SEHA – Gazprom League scorer of the competition so far is PPD Zagreb’s Ivan Cupic with 29 goals. Jorge Maqueda will have a good chance to catch up as he has two more matches to play and is currently sitting at 24. Aidenas Malasinskas and Marin Sipic have 21 each, Mikita Vailupau 20, Dmitrii Santalov 18, Dmytro Horiha 17.
