Lauge: ‘Half-time talk in the locker room changed it all’

Lauge secures fifth trophy for lucky Telekom Veszprem

Fifth title and a third triumph in a row for Telekom Veszprem in Zadar against PPD Zagreb. Hungarians were six goals behind after the first half but a heroic outing in the second helped them seal the deal in their favor.

Momir Ilic, Telekom Veszprem player:
Congrats to my players on an incredible comeback here tonight. We’ve played nine matches this month and managed to win all of them which surely means something. PPD Zagreb delivered a splendid performance but we knew they would do that. They managed to slow us down in the first but in the second we woke up showing our real selves and winning the fifth title for Telekom Veszprem.

Ivica Obrvan, PPD Zagreb coach:
We’ve played a great match here today although I don’t fancy celebrating losses. The match was similar to the one we played last season. Unfortunately, we lost strength in the second half allowing Telekom Veszprem to get all the way back into this one. In the end, we missed some clear looks and their experience turned out to be the key. A well-deserved win for Telekom Veszprem in the end. I can say I’m happy with what we’ve shown here in Zadar and I hope it will serve as a confidence booster ahead of the EHF Champions League challenges.

Rasmus Lauge Schmidt, Telekom Veszprem player:
It was an incredibly tough game for us with Zvonimir Srna looking absolutely unstoppable. Half time changed it all as we came out of the locker room looking much better, fighting together all the way until the final whistle. We’re really happy right now.

Zvonimir Srna, PPD Zagreb player:
Congrats to Telekom Veszprem as well as all of my teammates. We were aware of how important it is to stop their offensive transition and I feel like we succeeded in the first. In the second committed too many turnovers playing against their 5-1 defense and that turned out to be the key. No matter that, I’m proud of what we did as a team here in Zadar and I believe we have a good season ahead of us.
