Vojvodina to welcome Vardar in another interesting derby

Nemanja Pribak

Tuesday (20.45 CET) will be reserved for another interesting derby with Vojvodina welcoming reigning both SEHA and European champs Vardar. Serbian champions will be looking to prolong the positive streak after last round’s win, especially knowing they are only three points behind Motor Zaporozhye who are currently holding the second position in Group A.

Vardar will on the other hand most certainly try to get back on the winning tracks after a tough defeat in VELUX EHF Champions League match. Two rounds ago, in what was the first encounter of the season for the two teams, Vardar managed to come out on top with a 26:23 win.

Boris Rojevic, Vojvodina coach:
I would like to invite all the handball fans in our city to come and witness the match against arguably the best team in Europe in the last few years. National championship break is behind us which is why we’ve had an opportunity to recover some of our players but unfortunately we still won’t be able to count on injured Milasevic not our left backs Sretenovic and Ilic. That will be a bit of a problem and we’ll need players to jump into that role abut I believe it won’t be hard for them since there is no bigger motivation than playing Vardar. Once again, I’d like to invite all the fans to come and support us in trying to fight for the best possible position prior to SEHA Playoffs.

Luka Arsenic, Vojvodina goalkeeper:
European champs are coming to our home. I don’t really have to say anything else. There is no bigger motive, matches like this one are the easiest ones you can play because you have nothing to lose. Only thing we can promise is a big fight.

Eduard Koksharov, Vardar coach:
We’re having a hard time dealing with all the injuries but despite of that we’re all the time trying to give our best. We’re travelling to Novi Sad after a tough Champions League match. Vojvodina have a serious, strong team. We’ll play there with a combined roster but we’ll do everything we can to win the match. We have a few more matches left to play in SEHA League before the end of the regular part of the season and we’ll do our best to close that chapter on a high note.

Domen Sikosek Pelko, Vardar player:
After such a difficult period for us is not going to be easy, but as we have shown many times already, we’ll do everything we can to deliver best possible performance and win the first place. Vojvodina have a good team, they are playing good defense but our goal is to prove that we are simply a better team. I believe in this team and think we can return to Skopje with three new points.
